This workshop will equip PhD students, postdocs, and faculty with practical strategies to strengthen grant and fellowship applications in today’s evolving funding environment. Participants will learn how to frame proposals to align with shifting federal and foundation priorities, craft compelling research narratives, and position their work for maximum impact and competitiveness.

Representatives from Lewis-Burke Associates and the Rutgers Foundation will provide an overview of the current federal research landscape, including key opportunities for fellowships and early-career awards, as well as recent and anticipated policy changes affecting international trainees.

Finally, we will highlight broader trends to watch, including changes in review criteria, increased emphasis on translational impact and data rigor, and evolving expectations around collaboration and research direction. Participants will do a hands-on exercise to frame their research to align with these trends and leave with clear, actionable guidance for navigating funding opportunities and adapting their proposals to a rapidly changing environment.
