This post was written following the September 28, 2017 iJOBS event with Regeneron Regeneron prides itself for being a company thriving on quality research and the active role it plays in the entire life cycle of its drugs. The company was found by two M.D Ph.Ds (Leonard S. Schleifer and George D. Yancopoulos) with the goal of creating regenerative medicine for neuroscience research. The company, which initially received $1 million in venture capital funding, now has over 5,500 employees and 6 FDA-approved drugs, which were all invented in-house, from start to finish.

This post was written after the September 27, 2017 iJOBS event: Applying for jobs as an international student, advice from an immigration attorney held at Rutgers University On September 27^th, immigration lawyer Michael J. Goldstein gave a talk on the process of going from a student with F1 status to finding a job with an H1-B petition and further. During a time of turmoil regarding immigration laws, Goldstein stressed how important it is to find a lawyer focused primarily on immigration law.

In the age of venture capital funding and angel investors, the National Science Foundation NSF has created the Innovation Corps (I-corps) program to promote tech entrepreneurship. It primarily aims to increase the economic impact of academic research projects. Unfortunately, several factors can impede the process of taking scientific research from academic labs to create successful economic ventures.

Hey everyone! I hope your summers have been well! Things have flown by. I thought I’d give you all an update. I am currently preparing for my next journey in the D.C. metro area science policy space as an American Association for Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science and Technology Fellow in the Division of Engineering Education Centers in the Broadening Participation in Engineering division. Also, I’d like to take this time to thank the Rutgers iJOBS community. The various programs I participated in were eye opening and broadened my perspectives.

This piece was written after attending an iJOBS workshop entitled: How to Get and Keep a Job presented by Nancy Mark from Johnson & Johnson on June 29th, 2017 in Piscataway, NJ. As graduate students and post docs, we work in a semi-professional environment, wearing the uniforms of bright t-shirts, coffee stained jeans, and disintegrating shoes. Transitioning from this scholarly environment to one that requires tailored clothes and dry cleaning can be daunting, requiring more than just a simple trip to Nordstrom’s.

This past academic year, I was selected as a Raimondo Fellow as part of the Eagleton Fellowship program. This fellowship allows selected students to gain a better understanding of government, public affairs, and the legislative process through a class offered in the fall and an internship completed  in the spring.
