Postdoctoral Fellowships of 3-12 months are available for scholars who have held the doctoral degree or equivalent for fewer than seven years as of the application deadline. Fellowships provide opportunities to pursue independent research projects in association with Smithsonian research staff.

Fellowships are awarded for one academic year of full-time advanced level language study in East or Southeast Asia in approved language programs. Applicants must be pursuing careers using of one of the eight approved modern East/Southeast Asian languages and be at or near advanced language level.
Fellowships provide support for Belgian students for 9 months of full-time graduate study, or twelve months for research in the U.S. Study. Additional awards are available for biomedical engineering research and for postdoctoral research in biotechnology. This fellowship supports advanced study or research in Belgium for 6 to 12 months. Applicants must either have a master’s or equivalent degree, or be working towards a PhD in the US. Applicants should make their own arrangements to affiliate with a Belgian University or research institution.
Dissertation Fellowships provide a $20,000 stipend to women who will be in their final phase of dissertation write up during the fellowship year. Applicants must be ABD, and have received approval for their research proposals. The competition is open to applicants in all fields of study.
International Fellowships award for full-time study or research to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Fellowships support graduate or postgraduate studies at accredited institutions. Recipients are selected for academic achievement and commitment to women and girls.
This fellowship supports women who intend to pursue full-time study at accredited institutions in one of the designated degree programs where women’s participation traditionally has been low. The fellowship is for master’s level degree programs only, and does not support doctoral studies.
This is awarded to a woman who has completed at least one calendar year in a full-time doctoral program and is enrolled in full-time studies in Canada or abroad at the time of application. Must be Canadian citizen or landed immigrant.
