Featured Funder: Point Foundation National LGBTQ Scholarship Fund

by | Dec 20, 2018 | Featured Awards, Funder and Award Spotlight, Grant

Today’s Featured Funder, Point Foundation, is a unique scholarship organization for “out” lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer (LGBTQ) students. Awardees receive funding for up to five years of educational expenses and also participate in mentoring relationships, networking opportunities, and leadership training. In return, recipients commit to carrying out a community service project every year that they receive funding.

To be eligible, applicants must be LGBTQ students in an undergraduate or graduate program. (A separate scholarship opportunity is also available for community college students.) Applicants can be US citizens, DACA recipients, or international students, but they must attend an accredited institution in the United States.

Awardees are chosen through a rigorous, three-stage selection process that culminates in an in-person interview. Selection criteria include leadership, academic achievement, financial need, and a track record of working on behalf of the LGBTQ community. Point Foundation is especially interested in supporting students who have lost the support of their families and/or communities because of their LGBTQ status.
