Fulbright Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Program

The Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) Fellowship Program provides opportunities to doctoral candidates to engage in full-time dissertation research abroad in modern foreign languages and area studies. The program is designed to deepen research knowledge of languages and cultures that are not generally included in U.S. curricula. More broadly, Fulbright-Hays programs aim to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries through educational and cultural exchange. Is Fulbright Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Program the Right Fit for You?

What are they looking for?

The Fulbright Hays program supports doctoral candidates who need to spend 6 to 12 months abroad for research on a dissertation project that contributes to area studies.

Who is eligible to apply?

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are currently enrolled in a research doctoral degree program and in good standing in their program. Read more about the eligibility requirements.

What does this fellowship include?

The Fulbright Hays provides 6 to 12 months of support for overseas research to support an area studies project. The award will include living expenses, travel and project expenses, and health insurance.

When should I apply?

The FY 2017 the competition opened on May 16, 2018 and our on campus deadline is June 21, 2018. The award period for the FY 2018 competition will run from October 2018 to March 2020.
