Series Note: Building on our recent profiling of the 2016-2017 Ford Fellows at Rutgers University-New Brunswick, we are pleased to launch a new feature to our blog, video posts by our successful students who will share with you their thoughts and perspectives on applying for fellowships and grants and the impact that the awards have on their scholarly endeavors.
Our first post is by Jasmin Young, a doctoral candidate in History and 2015-2016 Ford Foundation Dissertation Fellow. As Jasmin completes her fellowship tenure, her post reflects on the impact that the Ford Fellowship has had on her career and scholarly development at this crucial time as she completes her dissertation and enters a highly competitive job market.
As you view Jasmin’s post, note the two important themes of her comments: in addition to the tangible benefits of financial support and distinction, the fellowship provided two important, elusive and transformative benefits — time and networking.
