Women in Geographic Education Award

The Women in Geographic Education (WIGE) Special Interest Network will award a $500 scholarship to an undergraduate or graduate woman enrolled in a program leading to a career in geographic education. Registration fees will be waived, and an additional $300 for travel expenses will be awarded if the recipient wishes to attend the National Conference on Geography Education. The award will be presented at the meeting.

Qualifications: To qualify, the student must have an overall GPA of 3.0 and a geography GPA of 3.5, based on a 4.0 scale. The applicant must also submit an essay of not more than 600 words responding to this prompt: “If you had a magic wand, what would you change about the way geography is taught in schools to make it more inviting and appealing to girls?

To apply, please send your contact information, along with your transcript, academic vita, and your essay to NCGE. Arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent to the Central Office at least one of which is from a geography educator and a member of NCGE.
