Waldo Smith Hydraulic Fellowship

Applicants must be a member of the Society, in any grade, and must be in good standing at the time of application and award. Membership applications may be submitted with fellowship application.

The scope of the fellowship should be restricted to research in the field of experimental hydraulics as distinguished from that of purely theoretical hydraulics. Emphasis is to be placed on practical experiments designed and executed for the purpose of advancing knowledge with respect to the laws of hydraulic flow, rather than to the type of research which proceeds on the theory of mathematical analysis based on assumptions of unknown validity. The purpose of the research is to test the assumptions that are currently made and to develop a better understanding of fluid flow. The purpose

of the award is to encourage research in the field of experimental hydraulics.
