The Eleanor Tufts Pre-Doctoral Fellowship in Art History

The award, $24,000 per year for two consecutive years, will be offered bi-annually to doctoral candidates in the last phase of the Ph.D. process. The first 15 months (May of the first year through August of the second year) will be spent completing dissertation research, travel and writing. During the following nine months, the Tufts Fellow will be in residence at SMU teaching one undergraduate class in the Fall and one graduate seminar in the Spring, both in the recipient’s area of specialization. The award is designed to support art history graduate students in their transition to a professional career. Applicants must be nominated by the department of the institution from which the Ph.D. is to be granted. Candidates should send their curriculum vitae, a nominating letter from the Chair of their department, two letters of recommendation, and an outline of research and dissertation plans to the Chair’s office at the address listed below.
