Student Research Award

The AES Grant Fund Committee gives one student research award each year for research on elasmobranchs. The award is presented at the Annual Meeting of the Society.

Students who are currently enrolled in a degree program (undergraduate or graduate), who are in at least his or her second year of AES membership, and who are currently members in good standing of AES are eligible to apply. Selection of the recipient will be based on the merit of the proposed or ongoing research. The ranking criteria form used by the Committee Members is available for students to help refine their proposals based on the judging criteria. Emphasis will also be placed on how crucial the additional funding would be to the progress (or completion) of the research project.

Application package requirements:

1. A completed application form (see link at top of page), including an itemized budget showing how funds will be spent

2. A two-page (maximum) double spaced description of the research project, including hypothesis, objectives, methodology, rational, significance of research and financial need. See Criteria Form for details.

3. A letter of support from the student¿s major advisor explaining the student¿s research abilities, significance of the research, and to what extent the award would facilitate completion of the research.
