Paid internship opportunities at the Smithsonian Institution Libraries (SIL) are designed for current graduate students interested in working in research and/or museum libraries. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an advanced (masters) library degree program from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. A background in life sciences, anthropology, art history, American or cultural studies, American history or library science studies is preferable. Solid research, analytical, computer and writing skills are desired. The program covers specific areas, including special collections and preservation, technical services, digital projects and research, reference and reader services.
Qualified applicants must hold a 3.0 GPA in their major, demonstrate interest in the research and museological activities of the Smithsonian Institution and Libraries and show solid writing, analytical and computer skills. Interns may receive up to $500 dollars per week for a maximum of six weeks.
