Phelan Fellowship Programme

Awarded to an outstanding young researcher working on social and labour issues to cover a 6-month stay at the IILS in Geneva for research on a mutually agreed subject related to the ILO theme of “Decent Work”. The Fellowship is intended for candidates who:

# are under 40 years of age;

# hold a Ph.D. or are at an advanced stage of their doctoral studies in the following disciplines: development studies, economics, industrial relations, law, political science or sociology;

# are from a developing country;

# have an excellent proven command of at least one of the ILO working languages (English, French and Spanish);

# are conducting research on one or more of the themes: (i) employment and income generation; (ii) social protection; (iii) social dialogue; and (iv) the promotion of fundamental principles and rights at work, which are relevant to the ILO strategic objectives for realizing the goal of Decent Work. Candidates interested in the history of ILO ideas and their impact are welcome. The candidate for the award of fellowship will be selected alternatively from major regions encompassing developing countries: the Americas, Africa and Asia. ***Contact funder for application deadline.***
