James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions Fellowships

The Program invites college and university professors and other professionals with established records of scholarship to apply for appointments as Fellows. Fellows will devote an academic year in residence at Princeton University to research, discussions, and scholarly collaborations. Stipends vary according to individual circumstances, but will not exceed a maximum that is set each fall. Fellows from academic institutions normally receive a stipend of up to one-half their academic-year salary for the appointment period.

Applications are evaluated on the basis of: (1) the significance of the proposed research; (2) the quality of the applicant’s past research; and (3) the contribution the applicant is likely to make to higher education in the future.
