Foreign Language and Area Studies

Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) grants are for study of the following Southeast Asian languages at SEASSI: Burmese, Filipino, Hmong, Indonesian, Javanese, Khmer, Lao, Thai, and Vietnamese. Although these funds are allocated to Southeast Asian FLAS-granting institutions, they are pooled and are awarded on a national basis. FLAS awards consist of: 1) payment of the SEASSI tuition, and 2) a living stipend of $2500. Currently enrolled graduate students and students admitted to graduate program for the coming fall are eligible to receive FLAS awards. SEASSI FLAS fellowships will NOT be awarded to post-doctoral student nor to students enrolled in degree program outside the United States. Those who have previously been awarded FLAS awards for study at SEASSI or for study of a Southeast Asian language during the academic year are eligible to apply.
