The fellowship will finance a year of archival research studying businesses in North America or Western Europe, 1600 to 1950. Preference will be given to projects that both illuminate the wealth-creating efforts of businesses and address important historical problems, such as economic growth and development, the rise of living standards, printing and literacy, slavery and race relations, gender relations, etc. It is open to both Ph.D. candidates and senior scholars who need supplemental research funds.
