In order to strengthen the connections between science and the media and to improve public understanding of science, The AMS, in affiliation with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), hosts ten-week fellowships for graduate students in mathematics to work over the summer as reporters, researchers, and production assistants in US mass media organizations. Fellows are given weekly stipends as well as travel expenses to and from AAAS in Washington, DC.
