Fulbright Application Process Series: What Goes into a Completed Application

Posted on April 1, 2014 by Teresa M. Delcorso-Ellmann

Welcome to the first installment in an occasional series on applying for Fulbright support as a graduate student.  As the Assistant Dean for Graduate Student External Support in the School of Graduate Studies, I am the GSNB’s advisor for the Fulbright IIE Research/Study and ETA grants and the Fulbright Hays.

The focus of today’s post is on the application pieces one needs to assemble for a Fulbright application.  There are a number of Fulbright awards available to graduate students.  Last year, we posted an overview of the different Fulbright awards available to graduate students.

As you begin to consider your Fulbright options, you want to think about the pieces of the application you will need to assemble and develop a plan for organizing your documents.  Both the Fulbright IIE and Fulbright Hays will require a version of the following documents:

  • Research statement
  • CV/personal statement
  • Langauge evaluation
  • Faculty letters of recommendation
  • Host/affiliation letter of invitation/commitment
  • Transcripts
  • Application form

In future posts, we will discuss each of these elements in detail.  For now, our advice is to visit the web page(s) of the Fulbright(s) you are interested in and develop a plan to organize your documents.
