J. Clawson Mills Scholarships

J. Clawson Mills Scholarships support PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and senior museum professionals for one year’s study or research at the Museum or abroad in fine arts relating to the Met’s collections. These awards are generally reserved for mature scholars of demonstrated ability.

Jane and Morgan Whitney Fellowships

Jane and Morgan Whitney Fellowships are awarded to PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and senior museum professionals for study, work, or research in fine arts fields are related to the Museum’s collections, with preference given to students in the decorative arts under forty years of age.

Theodore Rousseau Fellowships

Theodore Rousseau Fellowships are awarded for the training of students whose goal is to enter museums as curators of painting. Applicants must be enrolled for at least one year in an advanced degree program in the field of art history.

APA Dissertation Research Awards

This award supports science-oriented doctoral students of psychology with research costs. The program funds grants of $1,000 each, along with several larger grants of up to $5,000 to students whose dissertation research reflects excellence in scientific psychology.

Elva Knight Research Grant

This $5,000 award supports research in reading and literacy. Projects should be completed within 2 years using any method or approach. Development of new programs or instructional materials is not eligible for funding except where necessary for research.

BSA Short-term Fellowships

These fellowships support bibliographical inquiry as well as research in the history of the book trades and in publishing history. Eligible topics may concentrate on books and documents in any field, but should focus on the book or manuscript (the physical object) as historical evidence.

George Pozzetta Dissertation Award

This is intended for PhD Candidates whose thesis focuses on American immigration, emigration, or ethnic history. The award provides two grants of $1000 each for expenses to be incurred in researching the dissertation.

Grants-in-Aid of Research

These grants of up to $1000 provide undergraduate and graduate students in the sciences and engineering with the funds to pay for travel expenses and lab equipment for their research projects. Their goal is to promote scientific excellence and achievement through hands-on learning.

Chester Dale Fellowships

Two fellowships are awarded annually: one for 24 months, the other for 12 months. The 24-month fellowship is intended for the advancement or completion of a doctoral dissertation in any area of Western art, with a preference for modern and contemporary topics. David E. Finely Fellowship

One fellowship is awarded annually for 36 months. The first two years of the Finley Fellowship are intended for research and travel in Europe to visit collections, museums, monuments, and sites related to a well-advanced dissertation in Western art.
