Sixteenth Century Society and Conference (SCSC) Fellowship

This fellowship for PhD candidates or post-doctoral scholars offers up to one month’s support for work in residence at the Newberry. Preference will be given to those working in the early modern era, broadly defined (ca. 1450 – ca. 1660). $2000 will be awarded.

Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Illinois Fellowship

This short-term fellowship for PhD candidates or post-doctoral scholars offers up to one month’s support for work in residence at the Newberry. Preference will be given to those working in early American History. The award is for $2000.

Weiss/Brown Subvention Award

This award provides up to $9,000 to subsidize the publication of a scholarly work on European civilization before 1700 in one of the following fields: music, theater, French or Italian literature, or cultural studies. Authors must document that their projects have been accepted for publication.

Newberry Library – American Musicological Society (AMS) Fellowship

This fellowship for PhD candidates or postdoctoral scholars supports one month’s work in residence at the Newberry. Preference will be given to a scholar working in music or musicology. Applicants must be members of the AMS at the time of application and through the period of the fellowship.
