These postdoctoral fellowships are designed to encourage interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching across the humanities and social sciences. Each fellow receives a two-year appointment which includes ongoing mentorship from a senior faculty member.

Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Fellowship
This fellowship supports post-doctoral scholars in any field appropriate to the Newberry’s collection. Applicants must request at least four and no more than twelve months of support. The deadline to apply is 1 December.
Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Humanities
This residential fellowship is for promising young scholars working at the intersection of humanities disciplines. Applicants must pick one unit (Comparative Media Studies/Writing, Literature, Global Studies and Languages, Music and Theater Arts) where they would like to be located.
Mellon Post Doctoral Fellowship in the Humanities
Mellon-CES Dissertation Completion Fellowship
Mellon-CES Dissertation Completion Fellowship provides a $25,000 stipend for doctoral candidates working on humanities topics in European Studies. Applicants must be able to demonstrate they will will complete their dissertation during the fellowship year.
Mellon Mays Graduate Initiatives Program
The goal of this program is to support former Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellows as they do graduate work. Programs include a predoctoral research grant, conferences, and dissertation developments seminars. The award is only open to applicants who were Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellows.
Humanities Without Walls Summer Workshop
This award covers attendance to Humanities Without Walls, a summer workshop on careers outside of the academy and/or the tenure track system. The award covers housing, and fellows will receive $5,000 to cover all remaining costs associated with the workshop.
Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship in History Education
The fellowship supports in-residency training at the City Museum of New York for two days per week. Fellows will fully integrate into the life of the museum while receiving training in the fields of public history and museum education.
