Student Grants
Exploration Fund, for graduate, post-graduate, doctorate and early career post-doctoral students, provides grants in support of exploration and field research for those who are just beginning their research careers. Awards typically range from $500 to $2500, with a few awards up to a $5000.
Fulbright Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Program
This program funds research abroad in modern foreign languages and area studies for 6-12 months. Proposals focusing on Western Europe are not eligible. Contact Assistant Dean Teresa Delcorso (teresa.delcorso@rutgers.edu) for more information.
U.S.-Japan Program Advanced Research Fellowships
Fellowships support social scientists with PhDs or other terminal degrees to conduct research on Japan’s relations with the world, to teach one class per semester at Harvard, and to be in residence and participate in the Weatherhead Center’s scholarly community for 10 months.
Dr. Margaret McWilliams Pre-Doctoral Fellowship
This is awarded to a woman who has completed at least one calendar year in a full-time doctoral program and is enrolled in full-time studies in Canada or abroad at the time of application. Must be Canadian citizen or landed immigrant.
Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies: Pre- and Postdoctoral Fellowships
The purpose of the Academy Scholars Program is to identify and support outstanding scholars in the social sciences (including history and law) with an in-depth grounding in non-Western countries or regions. Fellows conduct either post-doctoral or dissertation research in their fields and areas.
International Fellowships
International Fellowships award for full-time study or research to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Fellowships support graduate or postgraduate studies at accredited institutions. Recipients are selected for academic achievement and commitment to women and girls.
American Dissertation Fellowships
Dissertation Fellowships provide a $20,000 stipend to women who will be in their final phase of dissertation write up during the fellowship year. Applicants must be ABD, and have received approval for their research proposals. The competition is open to applicants in all fields of study.
Phillips Fund grants for Native American Research
Grants are awarded for research in Native American linguistics, ethnohistory, and the history of studies of Native Americans, in the continental United States and Canada to cover costs as travel, tapes, films, and consultants’ fees but not for the purchase of books or permanent equipment.
