John Carter Brown Library Short-Term Research Fellowships
This residential fellowship (2-4 months) supports researchers whose work is centered on the colonial history of the Americas, North and South, including all aspects of the European, African, and Native American engagement. PhD students must have advanced to candidacy at the time of application.
Vessa Notchev Fellowships
This award supports research in all the natural sciences, including physical, environmental, mathematical, computer, life sciences, anthropology, psychology and statistics. A maximum of $10,000 can be requested.
GCA Awards in Tropical Botany
The GCA Awards in Tropical Botany support doctoral candidates to pursue independent field study in the tropical botany. The award provides up to $5,500, and is intended to promote tropical forest preservation by increasing the number of botanists with field experience.
Anne S. Chatham Fellowship in Medicinal Botany
This fellowship supports research related to medicinal plants. Eligible candidates include students in any field of specialty who are currently enrolled in PhD programs at recognized universities and recent graduates who have received their degrees in the last five years.
GCA Award in Coastal Wetlands Studies
This $5,000 award supports young scientists in their fieldwork and research in coastal wetlands (defined as those tidal or nontidal wetlands found in the coastal states, including those of the Great Lakes). Open to graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in coastal wetlands science.
20th Century Japan Research Awards
$1,500 grants are offered for research in the library’s Prange Collection and East Asia Collection on topics related to the period of the Allied Occupation of Japan and its aftermath, 1945-1960.
